Our Swimming Team won the MYG Swimming League
We have some super news about the MYG swimming competition! Our children all swam fantastically with every child placing at least 3rd in their heats. Amelia Martin smashed the competition coming 1st over all in backstroke, 2nd in breaststroke and 4th in butterfly out of over 80 swimmers, giving us some top points. Alba Peters came 20th in freestyle, despite a slow start, being in the first heat of the first race! She certainly found her pace in the mixed medley however! Elliott Shepherd finished 12th in boys breaststroke, followed very quickly by Roman Hurst in 13th position, with a difference of 0.06 between them! Dominic Carr came in an impressive 5th place in boys backstroke with Jacob Knowles placing 24th. Ava Hands overcame her nerves to finish 39th in girls freestyle, and Morgan Humphries swam a strong breaststroke finishing in 23rd position. There were over 85 children for each event so they had some fantastic results between them. The children absolutely smashed the mixed medley with Alba swimming freestyle, Amelia swimming butterfly, Elliott swimming breaststroke and Jacob swimming the backstroke. They were 5 seconds faster than the next school coming 1st out of the 32 schools. Ava, Morgan, Roman and Dominic all swam the mixed freestyle, again swimming really well, and came 2nd out of the 32 participating schools! They then had a nail biting wait until the final results were announced. I am delighted to be able to share with you that the team finished the competition in 1st place!!! What a superb and very well deserved result. The children all swam their best and all stepped up to the demands of the competition despite some nerves initially from some of them! I think you will all agree - this is an amazing result! Well done too, to all the children who trialled for the competition, it is a tricky one as we really do have to pick our most confident swimmers as well as thinking about who we need for which strokes for the team. It is a highly competitive competition and we need to ensure our children can safely swim at least 2 legal strokes, competitively, to be able to take part.
