Phonics and Reading

At Bredhurst C of E Primary School, we intend to teach our children to develop a love for reading. We give children the skills to decode words in order to be able to read fluently with understanding of what they have read. Our intent is for children to become analytical readers, able to choose which text types and authors they enjoy. Our reading curriculum is designed for children to learn to infer deeper meanings within text, in order to develop an understanding of both authors intentions and characterisation.  

We aim to promote a love of literature and enjoyment of reading for pleasure.
